How much water do I use? Does the dirt cause the water level to rise?
You should fill the basin so that the water level does not exceed that middle spike in the basin. I keep the water level about 1/4 to 1/2 inch below the spike. That keeps the water level from going too high and getting in the motor. You may have to change and refill the water basin though, especially if you have a lot of carpet fibers and debris to make sure it is not running “dry”. After all, it is the water that trapps all that dirt and junk! Q: How often do I need to change the water? You need to change the water after each use and clean & dry the basin. Q: Is there any other thing I need to clean frequently? YES!!! You should clean around the motor part to dry it after use. Wipe around the coffee filter looking thing in the middle of the canister. You should remove that and clean it too with an old toothbrush when its dirty. I wipe it after each use, which keeps it from getting too dirty and requiring the “toothbrush” treatment.
