How often do chinchillas dust baths?
1) Depending on the temperature and humidity, chinchillas need dust baths between 2-3 times a week. Dust should not be kept in their cage at all times. Too much dusting will dry out their skin. Make sure you use a good chinchilla dust such as Blue Cloud or Blue Sparkle and not a cheap “bath sand.” 2) Most people do a full change of bedding about once a week. You may need to spot clean more often if your chin only pees in certain areas, or if they are able to use a litter pan. Shavings can be pretty messy, so you will probably need to sweep or vacuum around the cage every day. Plus chin poo ends up all over the place! Other people use fleece liners at the bottom of the cage. These are reusable and washable. Just change to a new one every few days, or if it starts to smell of urine.
