— Oak trees can live 200 or more years. The largest oak tree of record is the Wye oak in the community of Wye Mills in Talbot County on Maryland’s eastern shore in the U.S.A. It is believed to be more than 400 years old, and it measures 9 meters (~ 32 feet) in circumference, it is 31 meters (~ 105 feet) tall with a crown spread of 48.1 meters (~ 158 feet). Aug 12, 2001 Update — A very nice vistor pointed me to an article about the Live Oak Society that recently appeared in the Times-Picayune newspaper from New Orleans. In there they mention that the largest certified Oak tree is one named “The Seven Sisters Oak” in Lewisburg, Mandeville, Lousiana. It measures 11.27 meters (37 feet and 2 inches) in circumference with a crown spread of 45.72 meters (150 feet). It is estimated that it is more than 1,000 years old! Jun 7, 2002 Update — Jake Holmes, another very nice vistor to the site, informed me very timely that the Wye Oak mighty giant succumbed to a violent thunderstorm. High winds
