How old do you have to be to buy kitchen knives in the UK?
The UK age was changed to 18 to line up with other restrictions on goods on safety grounds (fireworks, tobacco, alcohol, butane refills) The shops can be prosecuted if they sell to underage persons – only for alcohol is it also an offence to buy (although it is illegal to possess fireworks in the street if you are under 18) In order to protect themselves some retailers are using challenge 21 to provide a margin of error – some for alcohol have gone to challenge 25 (Tesco for one I believe).
