how safe is fez, morocco for an american college woman traveling alone?
I don’t recommend anyone travelling alone in Morocco and many other places. Morocco would be especially dangerous for a couple of reasons. 1) It is a Islamic nation and because of that Women are 2d class citizens at best. The laws of the country are irrelevant because the only law a Moslem need obey is the Koran. 2) Morocco is home to many fundamentalist Moslems. There would be more but the govt is trying to keep some semblance of civilization. Therefore the fundamentalists would like to see the secular.govt gone and replaced with an Islamic theocracy. The Madrid train bombers were mostly Moroccan. Once land is taken in a holy war/jihad it is Islamic forever, even if they don’t control it. Spain being the example, Moroccan Islamic fundamentalists have took it upon themselves to regain control of the Islamic holy soil of Spain.
