How should I approach the new neighbors about possibly babysitting?
Go to their house and welcome them to the neighborhood. Just say something like ‘Hi I’m Shelby, and you already know my dad. Welcome to the neighborhood. I live just down the street and I noticed that you have kids. I love kids and like to babysit them. If you ever need some time away just let me or my dad know.’ or something like that. Tell them a little about the neighborhood (like if people near your neighbors grow lots of produce and love sharing their crops, or the whole neighborhood gets together every New Years and throws a big block party or something like that). Offer to watch the kids while the parents are unpacking to keep them out of the way. This will give the parents a chance to see how you are with the kids, and it will give the kids a chance to get to know you in a neutral setting. Good luck and I hope this helps!
