How should I become an elementary school science teacher in New York?
1. take the state exam to get your initial certification…you will have to be certified as an elementary or “common branch” teacher because you did not get a degree in secondary education… 2. take the CST…Content Specialty Test…in science to get your science license…that will allow you to teach on the secondary level… 3. you must go through the city to get a city license on top of your state certification, but you must pass the state test first…then you can go to 65 Court Street in Brooklyn for fingerprinting and background check…about $125 when i went through it… 4. start applying to schools/school districts…also get info about the hiring fairs that are held in the spring…there are usually 4 or 5 big ones… you could also look into teachnyc.com…teach for tomorrow or teach for america… 5. AVOID SURR schools…they are in big trouble and are very tough places to work… New Jersey i know nothing about except that you want to stat the hell out of the cities and
