No carpet is 100% soil or stain proof. Synthetic carpet fibers are more naturally stain or soil resistant than natural fibers, such as wool. A carpet made with olefin fiber (polypropylene) resists moisture and therefore has excellent inherent stain resistance. Polyester and nylon fiber carpets resist many water-soluble stains. Most carpet today has been treated with a stain-resist and/or soil repel treatment, so many spills can be removed if immediate action is taken. Look for labels such as STAINMASTER® Carpet, 3M Scotchguard , or UltraGuard , on Your HomeStyle carpet, which guarantee special soil and/or stain resistant protection features. To maintain the appearance and extend the life of your investment, professional cleaning of your carpet should be scheduled approximately once every two years. Check our Carpet Care and Maintenance Guide, in this site, for details on how to remove different stains.
