The officer entry requirements are 2 a’level passes and 5 GSCEs a degree is optional but I would recommend it as your pay and promotion for the first few years (until you reach Flight Lieutenant) is alot better, after that promotion is on merit and experience. You will need to be pretty good at mental maths for calculating heading corrections, speeds and fuel consumptions. If you decide to do a degree you will find many of the Pilots in the forces hold degrees in Aeronautical Engineering-myself included. This is due to the fact that it gives you a greater understanding of the underlying systems you will be using- come training you will really appreciate this. Also it is a maths based degree which helps you handle numbers. You do not need to be super human, but you do need to be fit, have good vision (but not necessarily 20:20 vision- but certainly no glasses or contacts and no colour blindness).
