How to Build An Easy Tesla Coil?
To build an easy Tesla coil, you will need to gather some materials. Find a transformer rated 9,000 volts or better. Make yourself a capacitor by layering five sheets of 12×12 polystyrene; alternating with four 10 inch metal plates. Make spark gaps with 4 L brackets with the bolts, keeping the round end caps on the ends of the bolts. Wrap a heavy gauge wire six times around a cylinder that is at least 8 inches in diameter. Using several pieces of PVC pipe, 1 1/2 inches in diameter and about 6 inches long, poke holes to make these your primary coil, and thread your wire through. Wind it about 500 times, and varnish the coil several times and make sure it dries evenly. Wrap enameled wire on two more PVC pipes for your RFCs, about 20 times.
