How to cook beets
There are different ways to cook beets:
- Wash the beets gently to avoid breaking the skin.
- Boil the whole unpeeled beets for 30 minutes to 1 hour in a pot of boiling water.
- Bake the whole unpeeled beets in the oven at 375 degrees F in a baking dish with a little water added until tender. Or, brush them with oil and bake wrapped in foil adding herbs or spices.
- For a quick way and minimal loss of nutrients, cook beets in microwave oven with a little water added to the dish. Time – 10-15 minutes depending on size
- Steam the beets, whole or cut, in a steamer to preserve nutrients. Time – 35-50 minutes.
- Grill beets whole, or cut, wrapped in foil with herbs and spices, or directly on the grill rack above a hot fire.
