How to determine molar mass.?
An interesting question. Not sure of the answer, but I’ll brainstorm a few things and see if that helps you get into the right direction. Normalcy of the acid can be figured from a base titration of a small measured amount of the unknown acid. You can use the titration with a know base to determine the amount of H+ the unknown acid provides per unit mass. That at least will give you a limited number of possible molar masses (most acids do not give out more than one, two or three H+ per unit formula). I suppose where you go from that depends on what else you can do to figure what is in your compound. Maybe if you can then precipitate a base salt with a known metal, you can calculate the mass ratio of me-base to H-Base, giving the number of acids? Once you have that, you are home free. Not sure that would work or not, just spitting out ideas. (the mass ratio of the metal-salt to the acid gives info on the number of cation sites being used). Good luck.
