Your best bet would be to simply go and ask a local travel agent - they probably won't have any jobs to offer (but you can ask just in case), but they'll tell you what they expect their staff to know, and what qualifications they need. With the credit crunch and the troubles so many airlines have, you may struggle a little to find a job right now, but you can always try a few local agents - the worst that can happen is that they have no job and aren't very helpful - just go and see another one.
