How to get into the car restoration business?

well I’ve been in the business for over 15 years. I’ve been a state certified ASE master tech for over 25 years, and I also worked as a UAW union worker for Ford for a few years before opening my own shop. I now own 2 shops, one in Michigan and one in Florida. You need experience, the best way to get that would be go to all the body shops in your area and tell them you are looking for a part time non paid job on weekends cleaning and prepping vehicles for them. Basically you will work for free, learn everything you can while your there, ask questions they will have no problem answering them for you. Prepping vehicles is simply taking things off them and getting them ready for work to begin simple things like, taking door panels off, removing bumpers, mirrors, trim pieces, that is actually the easiest thing about the process. Most restorations take anywhere from 2 weeks, to 1 year, depending on the customers wants, and pocket money!
