How to make a galileo thermometer

To make a Galileo thermometer, you will need a few items. You will need a scale for measuring mass, a water density chart, a tall glass vase, sand, water, measuring bowl, 10 watertight film containers, water proof pen, paper and pen. Use the sand to fill a film container, using a half full measuring bowl (record this volume), place your sand filled container in the bowl and record the volume. Using the density chart, fill the remaining containers with sand until you have weights that represent temperatures between 45 degrees F and 90 degrees F. Write the temperatures on the containers. Put water in the glass vase and the containers, starting with the 45 degree and ending with the 90 degree. Generally the temperature is the middle floating container, if they are all floating use the lowest number. That is the temperature at that moment.
