How to make good coffee at home?

The simplest and cheapest good ways to make coffee are a french press or stove-top moka pot. I roast my own beans, so I measure by weight (since they vary in size) but 2 tbsp per 6oz cup is the standard measure. Putting too little coffee in will over-extract the flavors making a bitter cup. If the coffee is too strong for you, you just add hot water after brewing (the concept behind an “Americano”). Auto-drip machines rarely get hot enough, so I use a Chemex manual drip, and percolators repeatedly boil coffee which really makes it bitter. I have 7 ways to make coffee; all taste great when done right.
