There has to be a title somewhere. You can’t take it off the lot without a title. If it’s in his name, they can probably find out in whose name the vehicle is.

Don’t know about other states, but in Ca., it’s registered as a OHV (off highway vehicle) if it’s not registered for more than (I think) 5 years, it drops off their computers. Have your nephew fill out a bill of sale on the official DMV form, and take it, and the m/c to the DMV with $$ and they will issue a NEW title if the serial # does not come up as “stolen” they will want to SEE the bike and the eng and frame #’s to make sure it actually exists and you’re not trying to pull any tricks.

Okay – I think the key here is that is is a DIRT BIKE. In a lot of States – DIRT BIKES are NOT titled and you only end up with a bill of sale from the dealership……since they do NOT register them for the road. You might check with your local dealership of the make of the dirt bike.
