How to remove cross bars on Highlander roof rack?
I have a 2004 Highlander with the factory roof rack. I would like to remove the cross bars but leave the rest of the rack. I have Thule crossbars with the Thule bicycle and canoe carrier attachments. I see that the cross bar ends are inside the rails and must come out at the back of the rails. I have heard that the ends of the rails have removable plastic covers, but I do not see how to remove them. I have also heard that you can not remove these plastic covers without breaking them, and they are expensive to replace. Does someone have a shop manual or know how to remove these cross bars. I do not think I would be willing to remove the headliner inside the car.
