How to repair asphalt box gutter?

A couple of things – How old is the roof overall? If it is very old, you might want to consider replacing the damaged section of the covering in the gutter area. If it is not so very old and there is no leaking you may be able to leave it alone. The service life of a properly maintained built-up asphalt & felt roof is indefinite, but easily 20 years or more. Ripples – as long as there is no standing water, mild ripples are a fairly normal occurrence in a built-up roof with expansion and contraction over time. Similarly ‘bubbles’ depending on their severity and size. Imagine such a roof as a series of blankets on your bed, but glued together and down to the mattress with asphalt. Moisture trapped between the layers or between the substrate and the roofing material can expand and cause the bubbles. Again, if they are not severe they are not necessarily an indication that the roof is not sound.
