How to stop a leaky bathtub faucet?

The leak you describe is probably comeing from the Shower diverter- there is constant water pressure on the Faucet if it were the hot or cold it would drip- The pipe going up to the Shower head, holds water, and is probably leaking back – if you decide to fix it, do it all – Shut off the Water supply- drain the Faucet and shower head, since you have a minor leak you can probably replace the Rubber washers, only, not the Stems, which are expensive- pretty simple job- Protect the Chrome if you do this, by putting a rag around the Nut before using the wrench. If you don’t know anything about Faucet Repair, buy a book or go to Do it Yourself dot com.
