How to take care of a miniature dachshund?

Get a book on them, and on miniatures, they are different than caring for bigger dogs. Please really think about your choice too, I have a “miniature”, she is 2.4oz and wont get much bigger, they are a handful to say the least. You MUST watch EVERYTHING in their environment, they will eat anything on the floor and that can kill them, they get stepped on, doors shut on them, they get out of most anything, they cant go into the elements without proper clothing and care as different kinds of weather can kill them, ie; they lose heat immediately, they over heat immediatly. They can be preyed on, beat up easily, and are continually going to the vets, as puppies they need round the clock care and feeding, like a baby, every few hours even during the night, their blood sugar can drop and they have seizures and can die…they can never be left alone either….if you can’t handle those responsibilities, please get something bigger that can care more for itself. If you can, enjoy, they are babie

With a miniature brush and a miniature bed and… Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Treat him or her like a big dog, behaviorally speaking; don’t allow a cute little doggie to get away with things a big dog shouldn’t do. Do treat him like a little dog when it comes to handling and care, however. Find a dogfood and dog treats that are small enough for him to comfortably eat. Go try Google or Dogpile to see if there are mini-dachsie care sites. Type something like “miniature dachshund care” into the search box and see what you find. Refine your search and try again. Talk to your vet. He or she is your best resource for dog care tips, after all.
