No, no no. Keep your letter short because the CV which you will attach does the ‘talking for you’. Your accompanying letter should merely have the address to whom you are sending the application, and after the Dear….. You have the subject matter, i.e. Vacancy for… with any reference they have given you. Then the body of the letter will simply be something like I am enclosing my CV in support of my application for the above position. If you require any more information please do not hesitate to contact me. In the meantime, however, I trust that my application will receive a favourable response and I look forward to being invited for interview during which I can expand on my career to date and reasons why I believe I could be the right person to fill this position. Yours etc. Just something along those lines – and you could if you wish add a sentence to say that “I would be pleased to supply references on request.
