How variation within a species brings about evolutionary change?
Because where there is variation there is differential action of natural selection. In other words, some members of the species will be better adapted to survive than others. The better adapted ones will be the ones who successfully reproduce and pass their genes on to future generations so that their genes spread throughout the entire species at the expense of the less well adapted varieties.
