How was it working with Anil Kapoor?
I’d seen him in a few movies and I was really struck by him in Taal. He’s so over-the-top and yet he still stays in the film and that’s really a skilled actor who’s pushing boundaries. I love boldness like that in an actor. He was nervous about working in English, even though his English is perfect. He looks up at those Hollywood stars and he didn’t want to trip up. He wanted to do it right so that if they ever saw it, they would respect him. So he said, ‘Listen, you make sure I’m not too over-the-top and keep me in check and I’ll help you because you’ll need some help with the Hindi.’ And we certainly did when we recorded the game show, that crowd in the scene turned up every day for two weeks, clapping the whole time. They were delighted; Anil’s a proper star. He would rouse them, motivate and gather them. He was fantastic and of course, he also has been through the system.
