How was this assessment undertaken in the Kangaroo Island Surface Water Management Area?
Estimated Use: The forecast water use estimates were taken from Water and the Australian Economy, Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. The area is within the south- east coast of South Australia and a growth rate of 1.4% per year was assumed. The report indicates little difference between no water availability constraint and the water stressed scenario at least to 2020. In reality this is unlikely as many areas are already have significant farm dams or groundwater use and constraints placed by water allocation plans may significantly effect resource availability. Developed Yield: The developed yield assessment and the threshold year for sustainable yield were calculated assuming the Mt Lofty Ranges and environs as a single unit. All of the groundwater and surface water units were lumped together and a 1.4% growth was applied from the total current development of the Mt Lofty Ranges.
