The PEAK Rewards are based on value-added growth in the 4 core tested subjects, not TAKS scores alone. TAKS is an achievement measure which looks at a single point in time. Value-added analysis is a statistical method that helps educators measure the impact schools make on students academic progress rates from year to year. EVAAS (Educational Value-Added Assessment System) reports provide a longitudinal analysis of student performance data. Value-added information tells you how much your students grew compared to how much they were expected to grow. Simply put, value-added analysis shows the impact teachers and schools have on students’ academic performances. Using this growth metric, teachers, schools, and districts can begin interpreting the impact of their curriculum, instruction, programs, and practices on student achievement. The writing component of the TAKS test is evaluated together with Reading/ELA. The writing TAKS test is not statistically acceptable as a standalone metric.
