What strikes my mind was the Indian removal act of 1830.From what I know gold was found in Dahlonega Georgia. This caused government officials to call for the removal the eastern tribes including the Cherokee..Dispite the fact the Indians case was argued and won in the Supreme Court and despite the fact Junaluska had saved Jackson’s life and had pleaded to Jackson on the behalf of his people he was ignored. Cherokees had their land sold for a very small amount of what it was worth.Cherokees were forced into internment camps were many of them died. The first forced march began in the Spring of 1838. About 4000 Cherokee perished from disease starvation and exposure during the 800 mile journey.Other Southeast Indians also were expelled including the Chickasaw, Choctaw and the Seminole. Tragically there was no 14th Amendment Act to protect them at this time It took the Civil War later on to correct this injustice. But even then it took another 100 years for basic human rights to be recognized
