How were papers assigned to scientific fields?
• Papers were assigned to about 150 scientific sub-fields based upon the journal in which they appear. In other words, journals were classified, not papers. • Journals can be classified into more than one sub-field, thus one paper may contribute to a company’s paper counts in two or more fields. • The classification scheme is that of ISI.
