The occupational and/or physical therapist will provide specific activities to meet student goals when the individualized educational plan (IEP) is developed. Educationally relevant therapy interventions: • Play a significant role in continued improvement of function or in minimizing loss of function due to progressive diseases. • Make it possible for the student to derive benefits from the special education program. • Provide direct assistance to the classroom teacher in curriculum planning and adaptations for a particular student. How can I help? • Stay in contact with the therapist and know what they are doing. • Provide activities at home that support therapy efforts at school. • Provide opportunities for your child to practice exercises/activities prescribed by his/her therapist. • Encourage a classroom management plan.
