How will the alumina refinery benefit the Bowen community?
During operation, it is anticipated there will be around 500 full-time employees at the alumina refinery. It will also provide indirect employment and new business opportunities to the local community the anticipated flow-on effect will be determined as part of the Social Economic Impact Assessment (SEIA). The alumina refinery is reliant on other infrastructure including the Water for Bowen pipeline and upgraded access at the Bruce Highway all of which will also benefit the Bowen community. The alumina refinery would be located 25 km north-west of Bowen so the community can benefit from the economic, employment and training opportunities while also maintaining the coastal lifestyle that is important to the community.
