How will the pending NYSE merger effect retail investors and regulatory oversight?

I do not anticipate any major difference, Julian. Correct me if I am wrong: rules of NYSE are based on SEC rules to a large degree, and it is a matter of government owned owned entities such as the SEC to set the standards for the exchanges rather than the other way around. As a side note, I hope NYSE does not get sold and remains independent. It is such an important American icon, so selling it to a foreign company sends the wrong message about the state of our economy and about our future ambitions.
