How will the semester system affect me as a cooperative education student?

A. The greatest impact for students will be the longer period of time necessary to complete the cooperative education sequence. Under the semester system, cooperative education will continue to operate on a rotational basis with students attending classes at UAB for a semester and then working on their co-op job for a semester. To be considered a co-op graduate and be eligible to receive the co-op seal on their diploma, students must still complete at least 12 months of work, or three semesters, as a co-op student. Students can continue to participate in the co-op program beyond the minimum requirement of three semesters. To be eligible to participate in the co-op program, a student must have earned 12 semester hours with a 2.00 GPA. Consult with Career Services and the Co-op Coordinator if you have specific questions or concerns.
