How will the University continue its commitment to the agricultural industry? Will the proposal impact Nevada’s status as a land-grant institution?
The University’s commitment to agricultural research and outreach would continue due to several factors: through the Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, and the School of Veterinary Medicine, which would relocate to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. In addition, the Center of Economic Development and Applied Statistics program would also continue. Rangeland Ecology would continue to be taught, and would move to the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences. In short, research and teaching by the University would continue to support the agricultural industry. All of these subjects are “branches of learning as are related to agriculture and the mechanic arts” and benefit “Agriculture, [and] the Mechanics Arts” as required by the Morrill Act and the Constitution of the State of Nevada.
