How will these changes relate to the existing lifejacket requirements when crossing coastal bars?

A lifejacket will still be required to be worn by all vessel occupants when crossing a coastal bar. Normally this will require the occupants to wear a type 1 lifejacket. The exceptions here are for all persons on-board a canoe, kayak, off-the-beach sailing vessel, sailboard, kiteboard, or personal watercraft. In these cases the specified “open water” requirements apply (as outlined in the table).
