How would a cheese sandwich made of wholemeal bread be absorbed in the digestive tract?
Lets see. Amylase in your saliva will break down starch(carbohydrates) which in this case is the wholemeal bread, once u start chewing it. Then it goes thru your oesophagus, and then reaches your stomach, where the food is mixed with gastric juices, which contain RENNIN and PEPSIN. PEPSIN will digest proteins while rennin will coagulate liquid milk proteins into solids. Then it heads to the duodenum, which is the first part of your small intestine. The duodenum receives bile and pancreatic juice. Bile helps to break up fatty globules into small droplets. (fats from the cheese) The pancreatic amylase will digest starch into maltose, protease will digest peptones to amino acids and lipase will change fats to fatty acids and glycerol. Digestion is complete in the small intestine. The digested food is then absorbed thru villus of the smaill intestine into the bloodstream. In the large intestine, water (from cheese and bread) will be reabsorbed.
