How would I get from JFK to Grand Central Station by public transport?

You have a few options – you can take a taxi directly to Grand Central but it’ll cost you $45 plus tolls, so budget $50+ (£33). Pricey, but SO easy. Perhaps you could suggest sharing with another person who’s going in to the city? Another way is to take the AirTrain from JFK to Grand Central – however, it doesn’t go directly – you have to change onto a subway train. It takes about an hour and costs about $8 (£5). It operates 24/7. Take the Howard Beach route and change onto the NY subway A-train. This will take you right through Manhattan and you can get off at 42nd Street which is Grand Central. If it’s 9pm and you’re a lone female lugging a suitcase, then I’d suggest the taxi. Better safe than sorry. The subway is usually ok but you never know late at night. Enjoy your stay!
