How would someone get caught by the police for downloading illegal software, music or movies?
Everything you do online leaves a “signature” of where the activity originated from. All they have to do is trace that back to your computer, and they know it came from that machine. Now the question is: Will they trace it back for downloading illegal software, music, or movies? Most likely they will not. They have a lot more important things to do with their time. Instead, it is usually handled in civil court through lawsuits. The police are not involved in this at all. When the police usually get involved is when there is a profit being made on distributing. If you charge people to illegal download items, then the police get involved and can arrest you for it.
