How would students be represented on a new Student Senate?
Colleges would be represented on a proportional basis, with no college having any fewer than two representatives. Another change would allow class councils to appoint one Senator. This would allow for enhanced collaboration between the class councils and the Senate, drawing these entities closer together. SPRUCE’s drive will ensure that the electorate will determine the representation of racial, ethnic, and progressive student organizations (CORES and COPS groups). Option 1 would give one seat to each racial, ethnic, and progressive student organization, creating a 62-member Senate under current enrollment numbers. Option 2 would give two seats to each CORES/COPS group and create a 70-member Senate. Option 3 would give two seats to each of both sets of student groups, for a 77-member Senate.
