Many forms of protection are designed and built into natural gas pipelines to ensure people and properties are well protected throughout the life of a pipeline. The manner and method of pipeline construction and operations are stringently regulated by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Officials perform an inspection on the pipeline every three years and require pipeline operators, such as Tennessee, to continually monitor and properly manage their pipelines.
