I am not a big fan of dental sedation, I want to be as conscious as possible during a dental procedure but, I must admit I get anxious and I do not like that feeling. Are there any other alternatives to heavy sedation to reduce my anxiety?
There is a dental sedation procedure known as light sedation or Anxiolysis dental sedation. This type of dental sedation requires you to take a light dose of oral sedation drug which is just enough to give you that calm feeling while you’re sitting in the dental chair. You can find more info about Anxiolysis dental sedation on this link http://cosmeticdentistportland.com/fear-free-dentistry/nitrous-oxide-sedation/
Concious sedation is a wonderful option for you… either oral or I.V. sedation. Dental procedures plus anxiety aren’t very fun so why not take advantage of a more comfortable option. If your anxious, you are much more likely to have difficulty getting numb, experience dental pain and having a bad dental experience… which you are already affraid of. Why do that when you can take a very safe pill such as Halcion or Triazolam and you wont remember a thing. If your procedure is a bit more complicated such as dental surgery, you can have an I.V. concious sedative such as Versed which is so safe it’s the primary sedative for children. The fact is, if your anxious, it’s safer to be sedated than to go through a dental experience with fear and anxiety. You are much more likely to have an adverse reaction under the extreme stress of anxiety than any complication of being sedated.
