Don’t let the manual setting discourage you. Its not as hard as you think to use them. With most fireworks, a shutter speed of 2 seconds, ISO 100, and aperture of 14 will work fine. You will need a tripod (or other sturdy support) and a remote release will help but isn’t necessary. I have detailed beginner and advanced fireworks lessons at: http://photography.about.com/od/photogra… I also have an articles on night photography, shutter speed, aperture, and preset camera modes that may be of help to you.

shooting fireworks is tough. And cannot be done well in Auto mode. You usually need longer exposure time. Shutter speeds of 5-30 seconds, depending on how many bursts you want. Or one trick, place the camera in B (Bulb) mode, and place a black piece of paper over the lens. then when you want to expose the picture remove the paper then replace. check out these discussions of a question i posted on photo.net a few years ago. (change film for ISO settings on your digital.) http://photo.net/film-and-processing-for… http://photo.
