I have an Apple iPad. Does it need to be encrypted?
No; however there are some (minimal) risks to be aware of when storing personal, sensitive or confidential data on the iPad. The iPad allows a strong ‘passcode’ to be set. The device can be set to wipe itself following a number of unsuccessful attempts to enter the passcode. In addition, provided Exchange email is set up on the iPad, the device can be remotely wiped if it is lost or stolen. A free application, ‘Find My iPhone’, when installed on the iPad will enable the user to locate, disable or wipe the device remotely through Apple’s ‘MobileMe’ service. iPad users however should be aware that there are tools available which allow the device’s passcode to be bypassed, enabling access to files and data in some third party iPad applications.
