I HAVE BEEN ARRESTED. WHAT IS BAIL, AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
In state courts, a person is entitled to have bail set in all cases except for capital murder cases. If bail has been set, you can post bail in one of two ways. The first way is called a cash bond. In this situation, a family member posts the full amount of the bond. The advantage to this is that, assuming you appear in court as instructed, you will receive the money back when your case is finished. If you cannot afford to post the full amount, the second way in securing bond is to contact a bail bondsman. Bondmen will charge a fee, typically a percentage of the bond amount. You will not receive that money back.
