The Mathematics Department is generally happy to grant you placement into any course that you feel you are capable to taking. We may offer you advice that you are not yet ready to take a course, but ultimately you make the decision and live with the consequences. Credit for the mathematics that you studied at anyplace other than at Brown is granted by the University through the office of the Dean of the College. This is done automatically for students who have taken one of the Advanced Placement Exams, but is handled on an individual basis for other students. Information about this procedure is described on the web site of the Dean of the College. Some concentrations (majors) at Brown require that you have studied a certain amount of mathematics. You can demonstrate this by either taking the appropriate courses at Brown, by receiving university credit as discussed here, or by talking to the concentration
