How many watts is that bulb? Both the plants you listed require VERY strong lighting and a steady supply of CO2 to grow. Without it, they simply die off or become overrun with algae. If you want something similar for a low-tech tank, consider Marsilea quadrifolia. It looks almost identical to Dwarf Baby Tears (Hemmianthus callitrichoides), but requires almost no special care.
