My simple philosophy is that patients should use any home care product that is going to get them doing a better job. Listerine is a great product because of the alcohol content. It definitely kills bugs, but it has very little substantivity, just like all the mouth rinses. The problem with mouth rinses and irrigants is that there is no way for the agent to stay for long. After the saliva processes through, then the bugs come back, and youre at square one.
