If a biological father voluntarily relinquishes his parental rights upon the birth of his child does he still have to pay child support for that child?

A Biological Father’s duty to support his child may not be “relinquished.” his obligation to support his child continues, generally, until the child reaches age 18, but may continue after age 18 as long as the child is still a full-time high school student, and is not self-supporting, up to age 19. The only way a father’s duty to support his child is terminated, before the child reaches age 18, is when the child is legally adopted by another person, dies, or is emancipated. Fathers often confuse their rights to custody and visitation with their duty to pay child support. A father who chooses not to pursue custody of, or visitation with, his child, still has the duty to support that child. A parent or guardian of a child in need of child support may contact the Orange County Department of Child Support Services at: 1055 Main Street 1st floor, Santa Ana, CA 92701, (714) 541-7600, (888) 594-7600, TDD (714) 347-4815, e-mail: childsupport@css.co.orange.ca.us, website: www.css.ocgov.com or m
