If a child develops swelling of an entire limb (ELS) after the 4th does of DTaP vaccination is it recommended that a VAERS Report be completed regarding this reaction?
This is a discretionary call on the part of the provider. ELS is a recognized reaction to DTaP, so VAERS data are not needed to establish an association. Unless there are unexpected complications, there is no overwhelming reason to complete a VAERS report. However, whenever there is doubt, or whenever parents want an adverse event to be reported, regardless of the event, submitting a report should never be discouraged.
