If an employee dies from surgery made necessary by a work-related injury or illness, is the case recordable ?
Answer Yes. Also, if the underlying injury or illness was recorded before the employees death, the employer must update the Cal/OSHA Form 300. The information recorded on the less severe outcomes (e.g. days away from work or restricted work) must be lined-out and then the column indicating death must be marked.
