If an NQT has aggregated more than two terms towards the completion of induction can her/his induction be signed off as soon as s/he reaches an aggregate of three terms?
A – No, because of the requirement that only periods of employment of a term or more can count towards induction. For example, If an NQT completes 2 ½ terms of induction in one school and then leaves, s/he would have logged 2 ½ terms of induction. However, as the minimum time you can do in any school for it to count towards the induction period is a whole school term, a teacher cannot simply find a job in another school for a half term. If the teacher in this example was working full time in the new school then their induction year would actually last 3 ½ terms because of the rule which states they have to be in the school for at least one school term. If, however, the NQT found a position where s/he would be employed for a term on a 0.5 contract, s/he could complete their remaining half term on that basis.
